Welcome to the Hero pack!
Our story
We got our start in organized rescue when we agreed to foster for the local animal rescue. What began with 6 puppies who had been dumped in the woods; an obvious death sentence. We went and got them out of the woods, bellies bulging from gorging themselves on the whole bag of dog food that had been dumped out where they were dumped. We picked up the puppies. I almost immediately thought we'd made a mistake, as I sat there picking maggots out of their fur. The next day one of the members of their group reached out to see if we needed help with vaccines or dewormer. It wasn't long, maybe a month, before to the dog population at our place was at around 80! That lady ended up dissolving that rescue and leaving us with the 82 dogs; we had no idea where to start. It wasn't long, though, before people from all over the country started reaching out to us to see what we needed. It felt like a miracle, so I took it as one. We were told that to get the kind of help we needed for so many dogs we'd have to form a nonprofit LLC. I did, and in honor of the people who'd helped I named our organization Heroes Everywhere Animal Rescue. Two years and 300 saved lives later, we are still HEAR, though some of the people have changed. We are still learning, but we have a list of people we can, and do sometimes call when we have a question. It is a wonderful group of animal lovers who have dedicated a large part of themselves to being the voice for the abandoned and/or abused animals here in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. It's a tough place to do rescue, but we serve a big God and some exceptional pups. To see a list of our pups click the 🔗. We have opportunities to volunteer, to foster and certainly to adopt. Join our growing group of heroes and experience for yourself what it means to be HEAR.
